Leeds United could be set to lose one of their star youngsters, although they are already preparing to replace him…
What’s the latest?
That’s according to Leeds Live, who note that the Whites’ mid-season tour could be Cody Drameh’s final action for the club before he is jettisoned due to the surplus of players in his position.
This comes after Pete O’Rourke’s claim earlier this week that Drameh’s lack of game-time could see the 21-year-old force a move.
However, with other reports emerging linking Jesse Marsch with a move for the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Ivan Fresneda, it seems that Leeds are already preparing for life without the youngster.
Marsch could ditch Drameh
Although he seems by far the most promising prospect out of him, Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen, Drameh’s first-team demands may prove too much too soon in his career, especially with the quality of potential recruits who could come in to replace him.
Despite the 21-year-old being described as a “Duracell bunny” by his former Cardiff City boss Steve Morrison, energy alone cannot make up for the experience of Wan-Bissaka.
The 25-year-old boasts 173 appearances across Manchester United and Crystal Palace and has had a reputation as one of the world’s best defensive full-backs.
During the 2020/21 season, he averaged 1.8 interceptions, 2.6 tackles and 1.8 clearances per game (via Sofascore), with team-mate Luke Shaw labelling him “the best one-v-one defender in the world”.
Meanwhile, even the 18-year-old Fresneda has more senior top-flight experience (nine games) than Drameh, who has featured just seven times for Leeds’ first team.
The Spaniard is enjoying his breakout year for Real Valladolid. Averaging a 7.02 rating from Sofascore, the teenage sensation boasts a potent attacking threat combined with combative defensive manoeuvres.
Whilst recording 1.5 key passes per game, he still maintains 2.5 tackles and 2.8 clearances per match (via Sofascore).
Even during his loan spell at Cardiff, where the standard falls well below that of La Liga and the Premier League, Drameh only offered 0.6 key passes per game alongside an admittedly impressive 3.8 tackles.
Although the future is bright for the Elland Road youngster, the quality of alternatives somewhat alleviates the burden of his potential exit.
As such, Marsch can happily ditch the defender in favour of either of Leeds’ aforementioned targets.
