After arriving from Crystal Palace in a £50m deal, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has quickly settled into life at Manchester United. The England U21 international has been a revelation for the Red Devils, locking down the right-back slot and undeniably being one of the first-names on the team sheet when fit. He has already made 17 appearances across all competitions, and is one of the Premier League’s most dominant defenders.
Despite missing two games this season, he is in the top five for the number of tackles made in total in the top-flight, and he was at his defensive best once again against rivals Manchester City on late Saturday afternoon. Having notched a win against Tottenham in mid-week, the Red Devils had a difficult task away at the Etihad to take on the Premier League champions.
Instead, they dispatched them with ease and should have been out of sight. And whilst their attacking play was sharp, their efforts at the back were equally as impressive, with Wan-Bissaka enjoying a fine game. The defender made seven clearances, blocked three shots and made five tackles altogether.
And after seeing his performance, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts about the defender.
Some fans really took their praise to the highest level, with one fan claiming that he deserves next year’s Ballon d’Or award, and another simply stating that he has been the club’s best signing since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
And a few supporters of the Red Devils lauded him for keeping City winger Raheem Sterling in his back pocket, with the England international registering no shots on target as per Sofascore.
Coming up against a City side brimming with attacking quality all over the pitch, Wan-Bissaka needed to be on his game. And boy was he on it. The right-back looked nerveless all game when coming up against the home side’s forays forward, and produced an imperious display in defence.
Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lauded this “unbelievable” ace for his recent impressive form.
