It is safe to say that Riyad Mahrez’s best performance for Manchester City so far was last weekend in the team’s 5-0 thrashing over Burnley.
The winger – valued at £54m by Transfermarkt – contributed with a goal and put in an overall dominant display at the Etihad Stadium.
On Tuesday night against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, Mahrez would have been hoping to recreate that form but he was not quite at the same level.

The Algerian international managed to bag an assist for Bernardo Silva’s goal, which was the third of a 3-0 triumph.
However, in a team full of star quality, Mahrez has to be on top form every game in order to stay part of Pep Guardiola’s side.
There were a handful of occasions when he fluffed opportunities to score, and his decision-making was not the best as he failed to spot options either side of him when on the attack.
Mahrez was one of only three players who were dispossessed during the fixture, and out of the five shots on goal that he mustered, only one was on target.
In fairness to the former Leicester City star, only David Silva created more key passes (5) over the course of the match.
There is no doubt that Mahrez is good enough to thrive in Guardiola’s side, but he needs to be consistently strong as the demand and expectation is much higher at a club like City.
