Leeds United have once again been knocked back in their pursuit of Che Adams after having a third bid for the Southampton striker rejected by the south-coast club, as revealed by Graham Smyth.
The Whites’ most recent offer was incredibly generous as they offered a sizeable loan fee alongside a £20m summer payment to make it permanent if Marcelo Bielsa’s side went up this season.
With the Yorkshire club currently sitting in second place you have to say that they’re one of the favourites for promotion. As a result, there was a good chance that they’d have had to fork out £20m for the former Birmingham City man if Southampton had accepted the offer.

As it stands, the Saints have said no, and that’s left some fans bemused.
To be fair, you can understand their confusion. The St Mary’s outfit have been offered a potential £5m profit on a striker that hasn’t scored a single goal since his £15m move last summer, and they’ve turned it down.
It seemingly doesn’t add up, and a number of United fans can’t quite make head nor tail of it either.
Others believe that it’s time for Leeds to finally give up their hopes of signing Adams.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has made it very clear that he doesn’t want him to go, and if £20m isn’t going to do it, then Leeds may be barking up the wrong tree.
The sentiment of moving on was echoed around the fanbase, but other supporters offered an alternative option as they implored the club to put the same offer in for Jarrod Bowen, a player United have already been linked with this month
In other news, Phil Hay has outlined Leeds’ stance on committing to a financial outlay this month.
