According to our recent poll, the majority of Aston Villa fans wanted manager Steve Bruce to avoid entering a bidding war for non-league star Ed Williams.
Villa reached the play-off final last season and just missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing 1-0 to Fulham. However, the club had banked on the money that comes with promotion and were plunged into a financial crisis when it didn’t arrive.
During the summer, the club faced a winding up order from HMRC over unpaid taxes and only just avoided breaking Financial Fair Play regulations as a majority stake was eventually sold to billionaires Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris.
The new owners allowed Bruce to put money into the squad and add new signings during the summer, but Williams, who plays for Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North, would be a big risk.
Despite him scoring six goals in seven games so far this season, just 37 per cent of Villa fans thought it would be a good idea to target him. Have a look at the full results below.
