As reported by The Daily Mail, Rangers legend Ally McCoist has called for the club to make an early decision on the future of Graeme Murty, believing settling the matter will help bring stability to the club this summer.
What’s the story?
The future of interim boss Murty is in doubt after back-to-back home defeats to Celtic and Kilmarnock prior to the international break.
His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and as of yet no decision has been made about whether that will extended or not.
McCoist though would like the matter to be cleared up in the next few weeks, with the semi-final against the Hoops in April likely to be a major determining factor.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, the former Gers striker said:
I’d expect a bit of clarity in the coming weeks. I’m not going to say who should get the job or that Graeme should get it, but I believe there’ll be some clarity and light shed on it in the coming weeks.
In an ideal world you’ve got stability but results will dictate whether you have stability. If you don’t get the results you won’t have stability because they’ll change the manager. I think everybody would appreciate that.
Will Murty survive another disappointing season for Light Blues supporters?
Should he stay or should he go?
Fans may be rapidly losing faith with Murty after the critical blows against the Hoops and Killie, but he has improved the Ibrox outfit since taking over from Pedro Caixinha late last year.
Recruiting well in the January transfer window, the Rangers squad is better now than it has been for a number of years and they’ve signed some of their better players up to new, extended contracts.
Giving him another crack at the Scottish Premiership next season wouldn’t be the worst thing, but it requires the Light Blues to go on a winning run between now and the end of the season, finishing second and challenging as strongly as possible for the Scottish Cup.
If Ibrox chiefs have already made up their mind on the former U20s coach then they do need to make the change as soon as possible to give any new boss as much time as possible to sort out the team this summer.
