England international Daniel Sturridge is poised to sign a new contract at Liverpool, according to The Sun.
What’s the word?
Liverpool have been in impressive form this season and stand joint-top of the Premier League alongside Manchester City and Chelsea, all of whom are yet to taste a defeat in the league from their opening eight matches.
A thrilling title race looks to be on the cards and Liverpool have seen their attacking depth strengthened by the revival enjoyed by Daniel Sturridge, scoring four goals in nine appearances despite not starting a Premier League match.
Sturridge’s current £140,000-a-week contract is due to expire at the end of the season but The Sun states Liverpool are ready to negotiate an extension after the 29-year-old has proven his worth to Jurgen Klopp’s side since returning from a loan stint with West Brom.
A good move?
With four goals in nine appearances, Sturridge has established himself as Liverpool’s super-sub and his form means that there is not a single player in the Reds squad who has scored more this season – with Sadio Mane also boasting four goals.

Critics have identified Liverpool’s deadly front three of Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are yet to hit the sort of form that they enjoyed last season but the revival of Sturridge has provided the Reds with a depth that they did not have last term.
Now 29, it is likely that Sturridge’s next deal will be his last ‘big’ contract but he has certainly done enough to warrant an extension to his time at Anfield.
